Well, I've just had the local chav's letting off industrial strength fireworks at 1am ... that's pretty real
Still, it's natural selection, no need for government warnings there

Pollyana,
serious tips:
Tint windows with black film that you can buy. Or, replace the actual windows with black tinted windows ( not as expensive as it sounds) , or buy blinds. Buy, or build a home that bedroom and living area windows face North.http://www.greenhouse.gov.au/gwci/building.html .
We built this way. our main bedroom is facing North, and our living areas .. the sun doesn't stream in , only in the late evenings do we get a bit of sun streaming in.
Brew your own beer, perfect weather for it here, and it tastes better than the aussie p*ss.
settees.. chuck them out ( preferably with mum-in law tied to one of the seats - kill two birds with one stone) and sit on the floor - I haven't got a sensible idea for that one lol
Fires - we have lovely needed rain at last.
State of mind ( not serious tips) :
If you have cable, Watch as much Coronation st, Eastenders etc as you can. Tell yourself yourself this is the real Britain.. dirty, moaning people, crime ridden and over crowded.
Then lock yourself in a room, close curtains to block out the real world outside - watch as much Neighbours and home and away as you can, and say "This is Aus".
Cheers

Poll, Your posts are great. The only people to complain are numpties so take no notice. Us normal folk enjoy reading the ups and downs of real life. Give the bloke a slap, sort out a home you both want and open the bl**dy curtains.
Smile hon, you are with your man and it took a lot of effort to get there.
