We got a Navman iCN 650 off ebay from the UK and loaded all the Oz and NZ maps on to it, it's worked pretty well out here so far and has enabled us to get a lot done in a few short weeks.
It struggles a bit in the Sydney CBD, prob because of all the v tall buildings but it worked v well in Perth and other less built up areas. You can load all sorts of "points of interest" into it from the web, including speed cameras and petrol stations, even airports.
We paid £150 for it but I think they retail for a bit more than that.

We went to Strathmore - and got our 2 phones changed - $48 cap package and got a FREE phone, free Navman and a free PSP! Navman 320i, (we don't need the mod cons) is brilliant - but buy an ariel for it too - just a plastic metalic square that sits on your roof, helps pick up the signal much faster. We love it to bits!
