Nearly all pools are saltwater. Term is a bit misleading tho as they still have a chlorinator which produces the chlorine. You still do chlorine tests once a week too. The main diff seems to be its a much milder form than the old tip in a bucket of bleach effect. And the water does taste slightly salty.

I've been asking myself the same question, being a know-nuthin' about pool matters. I found some useful resources - included below. I gather that the salt is just an alternative means of providing the chlorine (remember from you school chemistry days? Salt is Sodium Chloride), but in far lower doses than a bucket of bleach! If you get it right - you're not supposed to be able to taste the salt - but I guess it depends how sensitive your taste buds are.
This link introduces general pool plumbing info, but not specific to salt water or otherwise.

This forum has loads of useful stuff on it, comparing salt vs chlorine, plus loads of other stuff, but is mainly from US contributors, so some of the equipment brands or models may not be applicable or available once you get to Oz. Anyway, it makes interesting reading. One contributor has posted loads of pictures of the construction of their pool - it is quite interesting to see a project from start to finish.

Re: Saltwater Pool Or Normal?
mines both!!
a salt/ chlorinated. basically you bang in loads of salt, it goes through a techy gadget which in turn makes chlorine!
very simple terms, but i understood my pool man Shane when he explained it anyway!
Kids love it and don't get sore eyes or dry skin..........
