My heart goes out to all the people that have lost their homes due to the recent floods and I realise as I wake here unaffected by it all how lucky I am,and that`s all it is. I wish them all a speedy recovery and hope they have no more bad luck

Amen to that. We watched Rich Hall live on telly last night and he came out with a classic line..
'good things come to those who wait, but shit turns up pretty much instantly'
Hope things improve quickly for all thoser affected.

For pity's sake, when you come to buy build or even rent - check out where the water will rise to in a 100-year flood and add a metre to that! It happens a lot more frequently than you might think in much of Queensland and the Murray Darling system.

We can all "Amen" that. But it's worth pointing out especially to those who are hell bent on coming to Australia come hell or high water (inappropriate metaphor??) that much of the continent is very flat and that the reason it doesn't flood every year is because most years are in drought.

Chinchilla, Gayndah, Munduberra - worst since 1942
Bundaberg = 1971
Taroom, Theodore - 1956
Rockhampton - expected to be worst since early 1900s

This may be of interest for anybody looking to buy or even rent on the Gold Coast.
Flood charts are available on line and should be used in your due diligence when choosing somewhere to live.
We all know the coast is prone to flooding but the maps are quite an eye opener as to the extent of what could happen and they show each individual property.

For anyone in Brisbane - Advce from Brisbane Council via Twitter - Minor tidal flooding may occur in some low lying streets on high tide around 8am tomorrow similar to flooding experienced late last month.
