Rye or nearby in Melbourne??!!
Gooday!
Does anybody have any recommendations for a top spot to buy a holiday home about an 1 & 1/2 drive outside of Melbourne? We don't have a fortune to spend either, and this could all be a pipe dream. But I know British expats often have the answer to loads of good stuff, so was wondering if there were any recommendations or top tips??
We are considering the $250,000 price range and would prefer a house over a unit. It doesn't have to be right on the coast, but a nice village would be a bonus.
Thanks for the help, much appreciated,
regards
Charlotte

Parts of Mornington Peninsular are reasonable. 250k might be on the low side, but if you wait til March/April (end of the season) prices definitely tail off.
Check McCrae, Rosebud, Tookgarook which I think are reasonably priced- look on realestate.com.au to get an idea of prices.

Please take this the right way but
Have to ask the wisdom of spending $250k on holiday home if your stretched?
Are you considering additional mortgages with the $250k?
Is it land only?
Have you considered land tax, CGT on selling costs?
Have you considered Phillip Island, Gippsland areas?

The funds are there, but it was more that we wanted a house rather than a unit, and even though I have checked out realestate, of course over here house often sell for a great deal more!
We are already in Melbourne, and will keep looking - thanks for the tip re: autumn next year - that might be the perfect time.
thanks

Hi
You might be lucky and pick up a property in Rosebud or Tootgarook for 250 but you'll need to rennovate it for sure!
Lots of holiday homes available but they are well preserved from the 1970s!
Good luck!

l don't think you could get a house near the beach for only $250,000 within 1 and half hour from Melbourne, but for $250,000 you might be able to get a small house in the Warrnambool- Port Fairy area , but not right next to the beach. Its around 3 hours west of Melbourne.
