Default roofer article in the west paper

There was an article today regarding the roofers in Perth being on strike. They are the ones who work on the new builds, they want more cash and better conditions. It says for anybodys interest the average wage an experienced roofer gets is $16.31 an hour, and for a 1st year junior its just $6 or less.
No wonder the trades are on the lists to get in, who in their right mind would want to work for that. It went on to say that there are so few 50yr old roofers because they are well burnt out by then and knackered.
Hubby is a roofer, and when we arrived he was a little stunned by the wage situation, he was warned against working on these new builds and has found a job with a small independant firm, who luckilly pay a good hourly rate if your experienced.
Hope this helps you would be Australian roofers out there.
Jenny
