Somebody needs to lobby the gov on it definately. If you've passed the TRA, you've already had to jump through hoops to prove your worth. You should be given a licence straight away, unless you a sparky or something who has to learn different standards before starting on the job. Even then I imagine you could probably do this with a day or two at TAFE.

It definately should be easier when the gov are actively trying to attract tradies here.

Did you look at the QBSA website, you can download a builder licence application form, it makes it very clear that truckloads of (aussie) experience is a major part of the approval process :confused:

There wouldn't *be* a shortage of tradesmen if it were not for the petty regulations demanding that they be used for the most trivial tasks.

I'm getting a plumber in on Monday just to fit a water pressure regulator to the rising main in our rental. In the UK or the States I wouldn't dream of paying someone to do it but here.......

If DIY was allowed - at one's own risk, of course - thousands of tradesmen would be released to do the skilled things or the easy things that some won't want to tackle.

My friend is in Perth, I'm sure he didn't.... just a blue card which cost $77 :) he's in fact doing really well now working for himself.

My husband is a Waterproofer, he also doesn't need a licence....just the blue card, he's also found the guys on site fine and has had no problems..... So for us its not been hard...Thank God!

REALLY feel for those who are having a bad time :( We're friends with people in the same situation....wishing you all the very best!

We got most of the advice from this website, and luckily enough did bring all the references etc, we were required to do so, what we find hard to believe is the way around things they go and how hard it is for them to make a decision on what we have supplied.

We are going to meet the BSA next week with seven years worth of paperwork, photographic evidence, plans, quotes, invoices, etc

So what more can we do, because I'm buggered if I know.

I also honestly think after next week I will have the licence approved, its all the unhelpfulness I do not appreciate.

There unhelpfulness is the only thing I was not prepared for
