He was saying how he travels the country and everywhere he goes businesses just cannot get tradesmen so the government should do something about allowing in more qualified immigrants. I was able to educate him to the fact there are already oodles of highly qualified people already in the country who can't get work. They have passed the difficult TRA type standards but are being shat upon once getting here due to the long delays and red tape of the licencing procedures. He was not aware of this so I told him nothing will get resolved until the trade associations discuss it with the government to get the process streamlined. The cynical side of me suspects the trade associations will not want to do anything about it because whilst there are these large shortages of skilled labour (able to work) their current membership will make a killing. I wish you well in your quest for that licence. You must be feeling pretty pissed off at the moment to consider going back. Try to remember what you went through to get here in the first place and maybe it'll help you dig in for a while longer ? |
Re: Returning home
Well said, I can't agree more with you. Infact they could learn a thing or two from us poms instead of giving us just grieve, I was told by the Masterbuilders I had the worse assessor looking at my case, but if need be I will take it all the way.
The government poach doctors, hairdressers, tradesmen, etc to get here and then we end up with nothing but closing doors when we get here. Its wasn't a decision we took lightly, in selling our home, leaving a very good business back in the UK, etc. It can't get any worse. |
Re: Returning home
Yep.
And see all the time, effort and money it's cost you. You've been in frustration valley for nearly a year so try to make it count by hanging in there eh ? |

They keep bleeting about standards but we know the real reason behind their lack of enthusiasm on licensing reforms for migrants who have already jumped through hoops to get TRA recognition. |
Re: Returning home
unions want to have a shortage of skilled workers to give the workers they have some worth. If there becomes a saturation of any given trade then the trade becomes worthless. Also, dont forget overtime for the workers who are in a "in demand" trade.

Re: Returning home
Exactly my point. :)
While there is a shortage they have a controlling power. |

Does a plasterer need a licence?
