Does anyone understand the current rules with regards to a dual UK/Australian citizens being allowed to leave the UK anytime this year. For a return to Australia.
I understand the current travel bans but I'm trying to understand can an Australian citizen leave the UK at present.
If you book and pay for a one way flight. Give up your UK rental, sell the car and furniture. Only to be refused passage of travel at the UK airport.
Has anyone any experience of travel recently from the UK to Australia.

You're an Australian citizen so are exempt from the travel ban. You'll need to follow all the covid rules of course, including quarantining when you arrive.

Getting a flight will be difficult but that's another story!

You can do it - the main problem is getting a flight at the moment. Very limited places due to limited quarantine places. With the recent outbreak in Melbourne rumours are doing the rounds it may get even harder,. There's 40,000 plus Aussies trying to get home now. The Government puts on limited flights which goes to those in high need. Then the airlines are offering them at extortionate prices. When people book their flights they are then cancelled just before leaving. From the research I've done the best bet of your place not being cancelled is to go with Singapore airlines and business class if you can. If the airlines are only flying 30 or so people (due to limited quarantine spots) they're trying to get as much money as they can. With the new variants they aren't keen to let people back in it seems - but there are talks of a remote quarantine facility being built in Queensland so hopefully that might up the numbers allowed back in.

Not all, but some, don't understand their responsibilities to Australian citizens. The bogan minority believe that all Australians abroad should have packed up and moved home in March 2020. Sadly these blinkered individuals don't understand that Australians abroad had reasons for staying abroad. They may have had year long work contracts, venturing home may have rendered them unemployed. They may have been married to foreign citizens, and had children living lives in foreign countries. There are many reasons preventing people from packing up and leaving at a moments notice.

Here is one of these morons. Sadly he leads the second largest place in terms of population and economy in Australia. Just ignore him.

Wow! Looking increasingly difficult to get over there right now (unless you're Rita Orr!) Let's hope the vaccination roll out (internationally) will make things easier for travelling again - one of these days!

Getting a flight is hard. Qatar Airways is booked out until April, and there is an expectation / high risk of being bumped at the last minute. Only tickets are business class to boot.

We moved back at the end of Feb. Get your flights through a travel agent or get a repeat flight. You don't need to pay business class. We got a flight and repeat flight offer at the same time and within 3 weeks of looking. Flights I had previously booked direct with airlines were cancelled with little notice. Went with world flight vibes london who were brilliant. Covid tests required before and quarrentine on arrival. Seems like ages ago now lols
