Returned from Trip to UK
We have just returned from a 4 week trip to the UK to finalise the house sale. We couldn't wait to come back HOME. We hadn't realised how bad the British drivers are it made the QLD drivers seem like angels and we decided that apart from our 2 sons (one who will probably be moving over next year) there was nothing that we really missed. Any one having doubts about staying here should make a return trip and I would bet that with the first few days they will be wanting to get on the plane back. It the best move we have ever made.

Glad to hear it, sounds like you made the right decision. I personally love these posts, because they are always so diverse. Mostly they come out in Australias favour, However sometimes they actually come out in the UK's favour.
Which just goes to show, That migration isn't for everyone. No matter how much heart you put into it.
I remember when I first got here, that I really did have nightmares about waking up back in England.
Now after 26 years here, I really feel like I should see more of England, having not done enough, in my 23 years of living there. So now I'm aiming in the latter part of my working life, to get enough retirement income, to spend a few months each yearin the Melbourne winter, in Europe and the UK. Thats the aim, I'll probably manage some of it.
Nothing is ever set in concrete is my opinion now.
Enjoy yourself, and the same goes to all Migrants for most the struggle is more than worth it.

We had the same feeling when we went to UK at Christmas. We had been in Australia for just under a year at the time and I was worried that it would unsettle us, but we couldn't wait to return to Australia and it made us realise too that we had made the right move. My only wish would be that we were all here ( I too have children in UK and France), but I do feel confident that we will all be here one day.

Re: Returned from Trip to UK
Hi
It was the same for us, we were only out here 8 months and had to go back as Lees mum was ill. I felt like someone had switched the lights off when we got out at Heathrow and they didn't come back on until we landed back in sunny Brisbane. We was a bit worried going back so soon, as we had just really started missing things, and we started getting a bit moanie about things not to our liking out here. It was a real wake up call and did us a power of good, I really, honestly felt sorry for people living there, knowing what we have here.

nice one gill,
we just got back yesterday from a 3 week stint away and boy were we glad to get back!
i think i realised within about 2 days that the UK was totally not the place for me anymore! so if I don't stay here after studying then i'll have to find somewhere else to go!!!!!

I was the other way I got home (Nottingham) and it honestly felt like I had never been away. Nights out with the boys trips to the City Ground and catching up with family again it was great. Brisbane is a great city but I dont think it will ever replace the feeling of seeing Nottingham again.

Re: Returned from Trip to UK
We're just back from a 4 week trip to the UK, my first trip back in two years.
I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had such a great time, we travelled around England and Wales catching up with friends and family and sightseeing in all the places we never got round to visiting before we moved to Australia.
The weather was great, just one day of rain (and drizzle on the way to the airport). People were much friendlier than I remembered, I kept on getting into chats about Australia etc!
Going shopping and having a good range of options and prices, having a choice of TV and newspapers, hearing non-Aussie accents, being able to buy non-aussie wine (without paying a fortune) and treats like french cheese etc - all silly things but much welcomed.
It made me question whether our lives in Australia are better than what they were (and maybe could be again) in England, and if having nice weather is the most important thing to me and whether I'll ever feel at home in Australia?
(we had a great time in Nottingham too!)
The only bad thing was how much money we spent But then, I did hit the shops and we socialised every night bar three!!!!!
