We arrive on the GC in January last year and rentals were few. Everytime we turned up to a rental we were in competition with about 7 other families.
We got down to the last week before our cat come out of quaranteen before we managed to get a house.
We are now at the end of the lease and they tried to get us to stay for a further 3 months because they say the will have no problems letting it over summer here. They say it gets busy from about Oct till Feb which in my own experience is bang on.

Dries up isn't the term I'd use - hot's up is more like it - you will be in competition with loads of others, especially families, most of whom like to move around that time to get settled before the new school year starts at the end of January.

One thing about renting in SE QLD From December through January is that lots of interstaters pack up for the whole of the school holidays and move up into rentals. The good ones are booked up a year or so in advance. Once they go back home, you have far more choice.
