renting??? :( on Central Coast
OK guys our family is in a bit of a dilema, coming into 4th week in aussieland and still looking for a rental. Our budget is 400$-500$ and we have a veryyyy small 8 year old youkshire terrier dog.. all she does is sleep all day and doesnt bark. We are beginning to wonder how long it took all you guys to get rentals.. its not like we have set our budget to low as 400-500 dollars is quite a lot. If any of you could help us out it would be really appreciated as we are staying in a hotel at the minute which is costing close to 1000$ a week and simply to expensive. We are looking in teh Terrigal, Erina, Bateua Bay, Avoca Beach area on the central coast.. any help is really appreciated. How long did it take you guys to secure a rental when you first came over. thanks

havent got any experience of this, but i do remember a couple of threads about this - they basically said if having a dog is looking like a problem and stopping you getting a rental, offer an extra sum on top of your bond to cover any damage done by your dog.....

Friends of ours had the same problem and had to move slightly further out of the area than planned - in the end they used the 'OUTDOOR' line and managed to secure a lovely property with a lot of land!

We weren't given any choice about an extra pet bond - it comes as standard and was 10% of the usual bond.
We told the agency that our dog was an *indoor* dog because it had been agree with our landlord that we could have him indoors - the agency said it was fine, but had to be listed on the lease as an *outdoor* pet, and he had to be outdoors when they carried out inspections.
Good luck - we found this part hard work.

As you can see from my profile, we are in Terrigal, but have our own house - and no dog - although our front garden seems to win a neighbour's golden labrador sometimes.
Are you currently around here or still in Queensland?
Our local agencies seem to be a friendly group - but they would be if they want your money!
The rangers employed by Gosford Council seem to be "on the ball" in enforcing the dog allowed zones, both on and off leash. I saw 2 of them yesterday move off an old lady and her (small) dog on Copacabana Beach which was almost empty of people. Maybe they were there on a "tip off" but they do seem to get about.
Good luck in your search anyway and if you need any advice in areas etc, just ask.

We had no probs getting a rental here in Melb with our Cocker Spaniel. We didn't have to pay an extra bond to be paid, we just agreed that we would pay for any damage he caused.

George Brand RE have some in Terregal and Wameral for between $300 - $400.
Try Real Estate.com.au and select suburbs eg. Long Jetty, Shelley Beach, Blue Bay, Bateau Bay, Forresters, Macmasters, Wamberal, Erina, Terrigal etc etc thelist is endless but they have lists of properties + the agents name. Happy house hunting.

His suggestion was that as our dog sleeps all day that we just put a pair of trousers in her mouth and tell the agents that she is a pyjama case!!!!

Re: renting??? :( on Central Coast
hahaha thanks for the help :P but yes today we got a call through and the thing that got us it was a "pet bond" to put on top of the normal bond to cover for any damage done (although I cant see how a miniture yorkshire terrier 20cm tall by 30cm long can do any damage lol) and that was enough Thanks again and hopefulyl this helps someone aswell
