Default Removals Bliss

Often there are negative reports from people here regarding their removal experience so I wanted to add a positive story.

After reading some stuff here on BE we decided to go with John Mason and from the first had a really professional personal experience - perhaps it's a scouser thing but they were lovely. We were kept fully informed all the way through re what was happening and emails and phone calls were returned promptly.

December 6th arrived and 3 guys turned up in a van to start wading through the piles of junk we'd accumulated (never had time to sort through most of our c**p so just through it in to sort out here - topic of another thread I think!). The guys worked like Trojans and by the end of the first day most of the flat was packed. Following day they returned to finish the job and bless them they couldn't get the container up the street so ended up having to run all the boxes etc down the road in the van and then onto the container.

We thought at the time they did a good job until our stuff finally arrived (perfectly on time into Brisbane and then a delay of a couple of weeks awaiting customs clearance) - then we realised they had surpassed themselves - I think I can safely say the guys took better care of our stuff than we would ourselves - out of 90 boxes/packages there were only 2 broken (cheap Ikea) champagne glasses and a crack in a mirror.

Only negative things I could say would be to watch out for the decontamination charge - we thought we'd paid a small fee to have it waived but turns out this was for the outside of the container and not the contents so had an extra fee to pay - if we'd read the small print properly we'd have found this out no doubt.
The other thing was we didn't think the guys from Wridgeways (who handle the move at this end) were terrible helpful - they weren't as understanding as the guys in Liverpool re our anxieties about our stuff nor was there any attempt to unpack anything - if we were more assertive this may have been different. They did say however they would come back to take away all the packing materials when we wished - at the moment we have a garage full to the brim of boxes and wrapping paper!! Bit like one of the rooms in Rumplestilskin!!!!

Anyway... A positive story about removals for a change :-)

It was about £4000 including the insurance and that was for a full container - very expensive I know, but we had some pieces of furniture I didn't want to leave behind, and we feel it was worth it rather than having to start from scratch over here.
