Default Remote...?

Often wondered if anyone on here has settled somewhere truly a long way from anywhere...

I think I remember someone posting from a farm in deepest North SA although I'm not sure whereabouts...

Any in NSW west of Dubbo...? Mount Isa...? The Alice...? Broome...?

C'mon, there's got to be a few...

I settled for 18 months in a part of New Zealand that is marked on some atlases as "uninhabited".

3.5 hours drive from the nearest traffic light or parking meter or macdonalds.

It was truly a character building and life changing experience.

Could've been PeteY, he was out that way somewhere - Mount Gambier or something like that?
Then there was the lady who was a teacher - was it Lolly or similar name? She was in serious Woop Woop land, Her usertitle was something like 100 kms from a pint of milk

I was in Darwin for a year. After passing a set of lights heading south on the Stuart Hwy about 20km outside of Darwin, there is not another set for ~350km, then not another set for ~1000km.

That's the lady, stuck it as long as she could, and full marks for that. She was living seriously remotely, wasn't she

This is so not helpful but there is some lady who is miles away in deepest darkest QLD. Also someone who's name completely escapes me lived on the border of WA and SA for quite a while but now lives around Perth - In something - Invictia, that's her

I spent some time living in a very remote town in NE China called Heibaoshan. Me and my boss were the first westerners the people had ever seen

Mount Gambier is SA's 2nd largest city (pop approx 25,000), has a 24 hr Macca's and Australia's longest main street - not exactly the back of beyond. If you get a chance, go for a weekend. Nice place actually.

On the subject of the back of beyond, I was working in Millicent earlier in the year (50 K from Mt G) & found myself unable to get back to Sydney for the weekend. OH has an uncle in Port Lincoln whom I've never met. Looked at map - didn't look that far, so jumped in hire car & set off. Arrive 12 hours constant driving later :curse: - bugger all to see either apart from road to the horizon in both directions. Nice place Port Lincoln - has highest number of Millionaires per capita of anywhere in Australia so I've been told (fishing, tuna farms etc), But bloody hell, talk about miles from anywhere. Sure there's a lot more remote places than that though.
