Default Re: rego renewal

I found the latest data from a new section on the QLD Motor Transport section:

The rates from July 1st 2009.

1-3 Cylinder = $206.35 Rego and $45.80 TIF + $340 CTP = $592.15
4 Cylinder = $262.45 Rego and $45.80 TIF + $340 CTP = $648.25
5-6 Cylinder = $415.60 Rego and $45.80 TIF + $340 CTP = $801.40
7-8 Cylinder = $591.90 Rego and $45.80 TIF + $340 CTP = $977.70
9-12 Cylinder = $682.50 Rego and $45.80 TIF + $340 CTP = $1,068.30

Looks like you went with Allianz for the CTP, they are $3 cheaper than all the others

The NEW rates are higher than they indicated in December 2008 !

A 4 cylinder is jumping from $571.00 to $648.25 ie: + 13.5%
A 6 cylinder is jumping from $666.35 to $801.40 ie: + 20.3%

Just to compare some renewal costs:

VIC rego is:
Registration fee $178 + Transport Accident charge $378 + Insurance duty $37.80 = $593.80
Fees are calculated by postcode, and this above is for Melbourne city, not sure if it goes up or down for country Vic? Also not sure if that 'Transport accident charge' is the CTP insurance?

WA rego is:
Registration fee: (calculated as $16 per 1000kg vehicle weight) eg. $160 for a 1000kg car + admin charges $25.35 + Compulsory third party insurance $235.59 = $420.94

Tasmanian rego is:
3 cylinder: $507.85
4 cylinder: $519.85
5 & 6 cylinder: $542.85 (broken down as: Registration fee $72.85 + road safety levy $20 + motor tax $112 + MAIB premium $338 = $542.85)
7 & 8 cylinder: $584.85
12 cylinder: $602.85

Qld rego has gone up due to insurance and will go up again after june 30.

Our bills were quite a bit up on last year, insurance was blamed, plus the rise due on july 1 ?? and I was under the impression another rise has also been approved.

Just like flipping electricity, how many rises is that now

Met a UK Doctor working here on the weekend, he was totally stunned at the cost of living in OZ, only been here a few months.

Watch petrol, subisidy removed on july 1, already food stores claim it will make food go up, what bollocks, when there was a petrol subsidy food was no cheaper than say syd or melb so why should it go up now.

consumers are treated like idiots in oz.

The QLD rego isn't quite as bad as I first thought, after comparing previous years changes.

These are the actual rego & CTP costs for our 4 Cylinder car:
$582.40 Mar-04
$541.85 Mar-05
$543.25 Mar-06
$536.10 Mar-07
$523.00 Mar-08
$571.00 Mar-09
$648.25 2010 expected price

This works out at an average annual rise over 6 years of only 1.8% per year, to reach that $648.25 price for next year.

If these rates had been increased gradually by that 1.8% each year, instead of going down most years, we would never really have noticed the rise.

It's almost the same with electricity. Even after the 15% rise being talked about now, it only works out at an average 4.8% per year increase for each of the last 7 years.

I think people will look at it more how it hits their pocket, up 50 bucks this year, up another 80 bucks in 2010, rather than what happened in 2001, i guess many on this forum wouldnt even have lived in oz then.

Has electricity only gone up 15%?? ours for a very similar household has gone from the high $300's to mid $500's in past couple of years and we use less power, very careful now, opposed to running whatever we wanted years ago.
I thought there had been several increases and one electricity co wants to backdate the latest one rise If its only 15% I want me money back

is this right? and whats with the third party insurance, we have our own full comp insurance so do we have to take this??
The Compulstory Third Party insurance is just as it says, "compulsory", but it doesn't mean you can't shop around and find a more competite quote.

I agree, that was my first reaction, till I went to see how much it had gone up since I arrived in QLD, made it seem not quite as bad for me.

I think that 15% is the figure they are talking about it going up by at the next rise.
In the March of each of the following listed years, the kw cost, according to my bills, was:
2003 13.5 cents
2004 13.2c
2005 13.3c
2006 13.5c
2007 13.9c (Not much change in previous years)
2008 15.4c up 10.8%
2009 16.3c up 5.8%
2010 18.8 cents assuming a 15.3% rise.

Again we got used to no real increases for years, then they hammer us, causing us to really resent the massive hikes. A slow steady increase would have been much better for them, and hardly noticed by us.

Unfortunately it is somewhat regulated... the choice is $337 or $340 depending on which insurer you pick.

Insurance has nothing to do with it. It is a plainly a money grab by Captain Bligh and the ALP government to bolster their dwindling coffers after years of mis-management. Surprisingly the same advisor, Mike Kaiser, a disgraced former politician (rigged party election votes in the 1980's), who is "advising" the Qld government was also the advisor to the NSW government - and look what a mess their economy is in.

My 6 cylinder car, which cost me $666.35 last year, would have been between $805.00 to $1,015 (depending on insurer) if I still lived in NSW !

Have a look at the CTP rates quoted for my old NSW address, for this car:
$412.00 QBE
$422.17 NRMA
$426.00 Zurich
$430.73 GIO
$454.00 Allianz
$458.00 AAMI
$622.00 CIC-Allianz
