Default Reefers

Hi

PSS have quoted for a reefer and all seems good to me but OH worried that as they have contained foodstuffs all our clothes might arrive smelling of rotten meat or mouldy...

Anyone had any such experiences or is this an urban myth?

hi, we have also been quoted by pss for a reefer, question was asked about the smells etc but was reassured that they are cleaned and washed out as this was one of my concerns with a reefer

Bit of an urban myth...

Make sure you get a good rate... Reefers out to Oz is all about equipment repositioning and the shipping lines that own the containers will be absolutely delighted with anyone that can contribute to their costs in this regard...

PSS quote for reefer comes in at £3250 whereas Anglopacific £3370 for sole use of a normal 20ft container. Does the closeness in price indicate the PSS reefer is too dear?-from BE posts it seemed everyon else found PSS one of the cheapest..

I don't think it indicates PSS is too dear, more that this is the rates that everyone's charging at the moment... It really ought to be possible to get a much lower rate from someone... but finding who's prepared to give something away is always difficult...!

Freight wise everything revolves around loaded cargo moving East to West... Not so long ago Evergreen, one of the largest shipping Company's in the world, had a vessel going around just collecting M/T's and taking them back to Taiwan, etc... Last time I spoke about this to a friend back in Felixstowe he was saying that he can get boxes back out to the Far East for the cost of the terminal charges... That's got to be less than £200... Of course you've got haulage, etc at either end but it shows that a substantial saving can be made if you can put the time in and do some of the work yourself...

There was a post here a few months back from someone that did pretty well on their own... Loaded the box themselves, etc... I'm sure their total cost end to end came in well under £2k... Guess it depends on how much you want to do yourself... Have a search and see if you can find it...

I was quoted £3200 for reefer container with PSS, Atlantic quoted sole use of 20ft container for £3100, we are going to use Atlantic.

We used a reefer through John Masons. It was clean and didn't smell at all.

Hi, we shipped with PSS and their service was excellent. They used a 20ft reefer container to ship our stuff and there were no issues with smells or taints.

A reefer container is lined and well sealed which should actually help in preserving the condition of your goods and avoiding such issues as water damage.

Just remember that in life you get what you pay for and cheapest is not always best!!

Just remember to make sure they line the floor of the reefer, with carboard or ply as the have an aluminimum slat floor, that can damage the furniture bases and trap fridge- wash/machine feet....................mm

PSS do line their reefers - we used them and had no problems, packers and unpackers really great - clothes smelt slightly of cardboard but nothing else!!!!!

Reefers are smaller as well. I think its 28m3 compared to 33m3.
