I don't live there but visit fairly often just because I like the area. If I didn't live here I'd live there .

Pros? - Scenic bayside walks, sea air, plenty of parks and outdoorsy stuff to do. Oh and surf-free swimming if you're into that kind of thing.

Cons? - The commute to Brisbane CBD wouldn't be a picnic I'd imagine ... At least an hour at peak times by car?

There was a rail link planned out that way but not sure if it's going ahead due to the flood expenditure ...

(edit) Apparently work started in May on the rail link ... http://video.au.msn.com/watch/video/...ection/xi0j5x0

Redcliffe has been left behind for many years but it is having a lot of money spent on it now.
Bruce highway will and is always a killer from 7.20am is to 9am ish, it only takes one incident along and its grid lock, so pot luck most days.
Railway will open the whole bay side up, prices should increase around places that are having the stations built like mango hill is having two stations, rothwell one and redcliffe one.
Water has a lot to be desired in cleanliness , beaches are ok,clontarf has better beach. redcliffe has a lagon but has probs with it keeping clean

We live in Redcliffe and love it for the safe swimming beaches, parks, lagoon, bike riding along the bay etc, it's great if you have young children. There are also plenty of cafes, restaurants and a few pubs/bars, but not any real nightlife to speak of. Scarborough has lovely beaches/parks too.

When I worked in the city I used to drive to Sandgate and catch the train from there - about an hour all up. If you were driving during peak hour it would be about the same (train is more relaxing though!). A lot of people do this commute.

The train link is definitey coming but I believe the line will only come as far as Kippa Ring which is about a 5-min drive from Redcliffe (not walkable). I'm not sure if this would be any quicker though as I think the train will go a more indirect route.

Getting off the peninsula to go to Brisbane is not a problem as there is a new bridge in addition to the old bridge which means there are 3 lanes in each direction, it's just a problem when you join the highway at Deagon. Hope that makes sense?

.

Oh,, and just to add, there is a market every Sunday on the waterfront, and a few large festivals each year, eg. Festival of the Sails, First Settlement. Today there is a Jetty-to-Jetty fun run.

I've lived here for 7 years now and never noticed an issue with the water quality in any of those

.
During peak hours there will be express services from the city. QR have said they expect the total journey from Central to Kippa-Ring to be about 45 mins on the express services and 1h05 on the normal services

...and in two weeks time, What's Cooking in the Gardens. In my opinion, one of the better fesitvals we hold up here, yet very underestimated

Lived down there for a year - woody point. There really is a lot to do, everything really and for work you've got the north brisbane, northlakes, caboolture, airport and CBD areas, plus the local area which is a pretty busy place anyway.

As others have said the bridge has new lanes now and the train is coming.

Prices down there are cheap, we had a waterfront, bought in the 500's, did it up and sold for almost 700, that house bayside melbourne, would easily have been 1.6 M. Its a very very good value down there.

Here's more info on the rail link. This link will most probably boost development in the area over the next 10yrs.
