Oh and hubby got a fine $90 for not parking parallell....WTF!!..aparently you have to park the same way as the flow of the traffic and not cross over the street!
Instead of taking an English test, perhaps new pommie migrants should be forced to read the highway code. Or take a driving test, theory and practical.

Do you mean he was facing the wrong way, as in parked facing opposite the oncoming traffic? If so, of course that is illegal, because it means you had to drive on the wrong side of the road to get there!

I was going to suggest a read of the road rules and then I was thinking as far as parking parallel goes that it I thought it was the same in the UK.

And as I learned the hard way, make sure you check the location of the fixed cameras in NSW - I got caught by one when driving in an unfamiliar area recently.

OH has got every type of fine since we have been here on monthly basis, but not yet for speeding.
First one was when he parked car the wrong way around in our own drive way $31, That's joke, our own drive way you have to park the right way.
2nd driving across big junction light was green when he turned but it turned red when he was halfway through his turning, that was the whopping $295.
3rd parked in coles went to do some shopping in the high street came back 5 mins late $18 fine.
4th-A car parked so close to his side when he opened the door it put little dent into the car, he paid $700.
We are still waiting for the 5th one to turn up.
guys try not to top ours bloody expensive.
