Had a surprisingly good steak at the Pineapple in Kangaroo Point recently (and a terrible xmas dinner at the Storey Bridge).
Further afield, I ate at the Pier in Glenelg (SA) last week - AWFUL service, food took forever to arrive, we were still eating starters when they bought (two of) the mains out, mine was cold, the other two mains took another 20mins, didn't clear the table etc etc

+1 for the Story Bridge Hotel (eat in) ... not too expensive and great steaks.
(just read Chels' post) ... funnily enough I was going to complain about the quality of the steak at the much praised Pineapple, the service was top notch but we all must have copped it on a bad day ...

All in Bris .....
Best Indian - prolly Ceylon Inn, Kenmore (not Graceville!) - restaurant and takeaway - tried plenty around Bris but nothing that flash really.
Best Chinese - no idea, gave up. ah, wait, King of Kings in Chinatown is ok.
Best Family Restaurant - Continental Cafe (New Farm) or Wagamamas (Emporium), Kapri (Emporium) is also good for pizza.
Best Seafood - Pier Nine, Bretts Wharf or Sono (Japanese)
Best Budget - The Vietnamese, Valley or Nandos!
Best expensive - Isis for degustation is still on the 'to do' list but so far would say Restaurant Two, Two Small Rooms, Liqourish and Alegria at Sunshine Beach
Best fish & chips - I hear A Salt and Battery in St Lucia is fantastic but not got there yet.
