Recent door to door moving quotes
Can anybody who had had a recent quote, tell me their opinion on mine.
Frome, Somerset to Wollongong, NSW door to door all fees included except insurance and AQIS inspection fee, I will be doing all my own packing except for a TV:
Further to our conversation I can confirm the following prices :
40 cuft = £449.00.
100 cuft = £689.00.
The second price is for the 40 cuft quote plus 1 double divan bed. I think the second quote seems excessive.
Any thoughts and should I try and negotiate?

40cuft is just over a third of a 20ft container, as that when i did removals a 20ft box was 34 cu metres hope this helps

If that's wrong, take it up with them
Volume of a container

Re: Recent door to door quotes
Well the 40 cuft I am being quoted for is 4 tea chest size boxes, 2 book boxes, a TV and an electric fire. There is no way these few items measure up to 1/3rd of a 20' container!!!!!

Re: Recent door to door quotes
I knew I had seen on here quotes people had had for full containers and when I looked at my quote for 100 cuft I couldn't understand how it could be so much in comparison.
Thank you

Re: Recent door to door quotes
hi it might be something to do with how they can store things because they charge you from floor to ceiling, some things might not fit into the space so they would have to take more floor space leaving empty space above it so that's more likely why they said you would need a 1/4 of a container,
we paid £3,200 for a 20ft container in 07 door to door and when we came back paid $7,000 but this time we are not takeing as much stuff over, bed is to old over ten years old you can pick a five bed room set up in nz for about $1,000, thats why our price is for about half a container would probley be about £4,000 hope this helps

They just said the boxes, TV and fire were 40cuft. Add the double bed thats 60cuft = a total of 100cuft.
I only bought the bed a few months ago and am trying to sell my stuff on eBay. I have a house clearance sale which goes off tomorrow night. I was just looking into the possibilities of me not selling certain items. As you can see the difference between my 2 quotes is £240.00 so I'm not sure what to do at this stage.
I do understand about the space in the container, but then it's up to them to stack it properly to take full advantage of the space. The actual cost of the container will be peanuts anyway.
I have to phone the removals back on Monday so I might see if I can negotiate because as you said you are paying £2200.00 for 6 times the amount I am sending, so in effect my freight is costing twice as much as yours..........

[QUOTE=Beedubya;8417240]Thanks. It was somebody on this thread saying it would take up X amount in a container not the removalists.

Re: Recent door to door quotes
On average we work on about 1050 cuft for a well loaded 20ft container, it is a bit more than that actual capacity (i.e. if you filled it with water) but you need to take into account shapes of furniture etc.

Re: Recent door to door quotes
The removal guys left before lunchtime. Must say have had an excellent service from Doree Bonner.
Nikki in the office, Nick the guy who does the quotes, and Eric and ??? who did the actual packing and removal, very efficient and professional service given.
Hope it's the same in Australia with Grace Removals!!
