I am now officially unemployed
I worked in an office in the UK, and plan to do the same in Oz.
What is the work attire down under? In the UK I wore a suit, so was today planning to take all my suits to the dry cleaners ready to ship - but then I thought if I won't wear them - why am I bothering?
I know that obviously they sell suits down under, but I have quite a few so would cost alot to replace.
Any ideas anyone??

I shipped most of my suits, but brought a couple with me, I have found them quite expensive here though to buy.

Depends what your role will be I suppose. Just done a role in the CBD, suit expected, going into a new job exactly same title outside cbd and relaxed dress code?

I definitely regret leaving my heavier skirts, trousers and suits.

"Hello Zachary,
The dress expectation for your position is neat conventional office attire.
This can range from collar and tie with jacket or lounge suit, to works-uniform type of gear complete with logo (open neck cotton or knit shirt, dark trousers, and possibly a pullover or jacket ).
The level of formality attaches to situation and the nature of the business of the day.
1. The dress code for attending the corporate and division head offices in Sydney is jacket and tie (typically a business suit.).
2. For Managers meeting with customers , consultants, or outside business partners, a collar and tie is appropriate.
This will occur reasonably frequently in your role.
1. Administrative and technical staff working at <<Big company>> regional production and maintenance facilities typically dress in works uniform. This is largely a personal convenience for Managers. Managers visiting these sites generally dress as they normally would in their own workplaces.
2. Most <<big company>> administrative and technical staff working in the Melbourne Central Business District wear issued uniform.
3. Many managers in CBD offices do not dress in uniform .
You will be issued with "uniform" gear ( navy trousers, blue shirts/ knit tops, navy sweater , and hard-toed shoes or boots) .
Foot protection is a safety requirement for most operations sites, (not including office areas). High visibility jackets are typically required for works areas also.
Our offices initially will be in the Melbourne CBD, but will probably relocate in about 3 months to share a nearby suburban maintenance administration site. Subject to considerations 1 and 2, you can wear issued uniform on a daily basis if you chose.
Ultimately, it will be whatever you are most comfortable doing.
Regards
Mr Manager"
