REAL Commuting to work times

Can those people in OZ, and working in or near the various CBD's, give an idea of actual commuting to work times ? and method of travel. I think it would be useful info to some people.

eg:
Leave home in Victoria Point QLD at 7.30am and arrive at work in Cannon Hill, Brisbane at 8.15am Travelling by Car. (28kms)

(not me, but a friend does that trip, I should have asked about the return journey too !)

Bondi Beach to Auburn
25km by road 75 mins by train
leave 6am arrive 6:30
leave 6:45 arrive 7:30
leave 7:45 arrive 9am
no tolls and going via broadway as western distributor entrance is a giant roadwork. The above is going against the city bound traffic.

Bondi Beach to North Sydney
Leave 7:30am at work by 8:30am. 1 bus and 2 trains.

For Sydney commuting check out www.131500.com.au for public transport
and ignore the travel times on www.whereis.com.au as they do not take into account rush hour.

A question like this cannot be answered in general, as some suburbs close-in may have a longer commuting time to the city compared to suburbs further out, depending on how the road network is laid out.

Another variable is what part of the CBD? Travelling by car from the east to west of the Sydney CBD can be a pain at the best of times, let alone rush hour. This should improve when the new Cross-City Tunnel opens in 2005, but even then will be an issue to consider (plus the toll).

Train service may not be available in all suburbs, and even where there is a train station, some inner suburbs miss out on many of the 'express' services heading straight for more distant suburbs.

Does anyone do the Redcliffe peninsula to Brisbane CBD and back on a daily basis by car?

No, but it takes 15mins to drive to Sandgate station, and then 30 mins by train to central. A weekly ticket is $22 for the train, time wise that's from Redcliffe, would be shorter to station from other areas on the peninsula (and longer from Scarborough).

I live 8km from Brissy CBD and take one bus in. Including walks to and from Bus stops is takes about 50 minutes and costs $3.40.

I live is St Ives, about 18km north-west ish from the CBD. Leave the house at 7am and drive to Gordon railway station (at that time in the morning, I can get parked pretty close to the station which helps). Catch train about 7.15 (would normally get a seat)gets me to Wynyard about 7.50. Five minute walk to work from Wynyard.

Door to door in about an hour, assuming no train disruptions of which there have been many over the last few months. Monthly railcard cost about $110.

Dagboy drives - Manly Rd - takes him 35 mins anytime between 8 & 9am. 35 mins on the train as well which is 5 mins drive away.

ABC, Cannon Hill is about 10 mins from us, so add the left over to yours to get roughly peak hour to the city (give or take a little as its very possibly a different route)..

Catch bus 8:20
Arrive CBD 8:45
walk to Wynyard 8mins
arrive at desk just before 9

Its 20 minutes slower going home at the end of the day.

I'm travelling in the opposite direction to most commuters.

Kirribilli, Milsons Point to Brookvale.

Not sure on the distance as I do it by bus (well 2 buses).
When you get to know the bus times it can be 45 minutes, but when I get it wrong it has taken 90 minutes.

Military Road is very busy running in to the city in the mornings and back at night. If it's flowing it's not too bad cept for all the traffic lights.

Jules travels half the distance, to Mosman, but it isn't half the time. Takes about 30 minutes on the bus, or 20 if she cycles.

Sylvania Heights to Marrickville used to take me 40 or so minutes. Bus from Sylvania Heights to Hurstville, train from there to Sydenham.

Then I moved to Summer Hill and it was like 10 minutes away by car max.
