Default Re-Configuration of lots - Electric and Water???

We have tried a search of the archives and also a bit of googling but have not been able to find an answer to our particular problem.

We have a block of land which needs to be re-configured to allow us to build on the lot. The thing is we will have to connect to the water and electricity and we have been told that we will not be aloud to use the shortest route over next doors lot but will have to go around the boundary and tap in from the front.

What we are trying to find out is how much this will cost? Is it done by the Metre or is there another wacky formula these guys use to overcharge us?

We are Ok for sewerage as this runs up the middle of the lot and we can tap in to this without a problem.

It depends which way comes out the highest

You will have to check with the people who will do the work. I got a quote for something similar once, and was put right off by the price!

You can often get a much cheaper job by hiring in your own contractor to dig the cable trench rather than using the power companies contractors, some contractors will even lay the cable and backfill leaving the making off of the ends to the appropriate power company. We recently worked on a property where the owner had saved himself over 8K by hiring in a trencher to lay the cable 700m from the boundary to his house site.
