Hi. I'm looking for a job on the railway over OZ, can anybody point me to the right direction. Currently working on the railway here in the UK as a track welder for over 10 now.
Any help or suggestion will be appreciated much.

Merc, I worked for Carillion for 6 years and Network Rail for 4 years, moved here last February.
best way is to get a search setup on www.railwaypeople.com, get it to send you new international jobs daily. Get a linkedIn account setup and make connections with recruiters. Plenty of demand and Visas for engineers and project managers, not sure about welders though

plenty of rail oriented companies around.
I work for a company responsible for maintenance/providing new freight lines, and we use Laing O'Rourke, MVM Rail, John Holland Rail, Coleman Rail, Abigroup, as well as RailCorp for providing track.
also, try www.railcareers.com.au or www.ARTC.com.au which may have something useful

Thanks bingobob777 for the quick reply. I will do what you suggest. By the way how long it took you get to OZ?
I also work with Network Rail.

From offer to arriving in Oz can be done in 3-4 months easy.

Might be handy to explain what sort of Visa that was Bob, I'm assuming due to the timescales it was a 457 temp Business Visa?

absolutely agree but keep in mind Queensland Rail did the same this time last year, so the industry is obviously consolidating - just a point to be mindful of for the OP.
with all the infrastructure work around the mines and whatnot, I'm sure he'll have no issues.

unlikely to get sponsorship as a trackman Tommy. Rail industry is going through a big downturn anyway, people being laid off left, right and centre.

I think I saw some job ads in the weekend paper. It might be worth a look at the QR National website http://careers.qrnational.com.au/jobSearch.asp.

THat is a misleading article, yes they are cutting jobs mostly higher management etc ... but they are recruiting now for staff see the website http://www.railcorp.info/careers/international
