Question Quickest way to get 100 pts for credit checks?

Was reading up the Virgin Broadband+home phone package+post-paid mobile packages - they all require a credit pre-approval (for post paid package).

As a new migrant with no credit history, what's the quickest way to build the minimum 100 points required by Virgin. I can only get 30 points for my overseas passport/primary id. Any tips?

Would overseas credit card statements, bank statements, overseas private insurance card (with photo) be considered? - in which case I have no problem.

30 points for a passport ???

The 100 point ID check is a government standard. A passport is worth 70 and a drivers licence 40 for example.

Actually scrap that I just looked at their site which seems to make things up as they go. Very peculiar and differs from the banking system and even the ID check set out by Virgin Money Credit cards.

Do you not have a drivers licence, or have opened a bank account yet ?

Within the first 6 weeks after arrival a passport is usually worth 100 points - certainly true for banks, not sure about Virgin though.

Thanks......Am still in Dubai, we're flying next week. So we are on ground zero at the moment. Will probably buy one Virgin pre-paid mobile initially and my daughter could use it thereafter.

Once we've got our rental sorted then I'll need to get the home phone/broadband bundle. I shudder to think of my phone bill o/a international calls - Just Mobile is by far the cheapest (@39c a min, no connection fee, billed by the sec).

Will open an account as soon as we arrive (HSBC probably). My sis-in-law is happy to provide a reference to open an account, although she banks with CWB (and I'm not too happy with their minimum balance requirement of $50k before they starting socking fees).

I'm with Commonwealth, I most certainly don't have $50k and I don't get fees

That's great - obviously am not looking at the right account - any links to your account type.. will save me from having to trawl through their website...Thanks

PS: Is it the NetBank saver a/c? Just saw it.

A lot of banks are fee-free if you have your salary deposited into them.

100 points is an identity check, not a credit check. You may pass the identity but the credit requirements will probably be stricter.

Generally for mobile phone accounts you will need bank statements, utility bills etc.

Officially CBA require $50k (credit or debit) to not have to pay the account keeping fees but depending on the branch you can get this waived (I told our branch I was going to BankWest and they waived them for 12 months without any problem).

re the 100 points, open a bank account using your passport for the 100 points when you arrive, then get them to send a letter to your address giving you official paperwork. Registering with Medicare will give you further ID as will your bank card when you receive it.
