Default Quick Tax Question - BORINGGGGG! (I hear u say!)

Just curious, being a relief teacher I haven't worked since the 10th December, and unfortunately don't know when I'll be working again (I'm too old for this caper, thank crikey for savings) will this affect my tax in any sort of negative way?!

No, in fact you will have paid too much tax and , depending on how much work you get in the next 5 months, you should get a sizable rebate. Did you know that you could apply for the dole during these holidays?

Tax questions are never boring, in fact, they can be exciting... to some of us

As Gibbo says, no negatives for you. Just a larger rebate at the end of the year (assuming of course that you paid the correct tax whilst working)

The DET deduct tax each pay period as if you earn that amount each fortnight of the year. Very annoying at the time, but nice at the end of the year, especially when casuals don't get paid for public and annual holidays. Ofcourse, I have to add that, in this case, unpaid holidays account for more than 12 weeks of the year.

Yeah I've defo been overtaxed this financial year so far! Is there any way of assessing how much of a refund I'd be due so far?

www.taxcalc.com.au If you have an idea of your deductions - so far - you'll get a more accurate figure. Remember that site is meant for the full year.
