If you are a perm res now then two years. At the end of Jan it might become law and be 4 years.

Australia Immigration will become famous soon enough
Thumbs up Re: Quick question regarding citizenship

Hi

Basic rule of thumb at present is - you should have resided in Australia as a permanent resident for a total of at least two years in the last five years including a total of at least 12 months in the last two years.

Heres a link that will explain in much greater detail and what to do etc :

Good luck

It definitely won't be law at end-January. It might be law on 1 July 2007.
And existing permanent residents will be exempt anyway.
