Re: Questions about DVDs
We brought all of our dvd's, they are region 1 from Canada.
We just bought a cheap multi region dvd player and have had no problems playing region 1 from Canada and any Aussie dvd's.

You can crack the region protection on most DVD players - did mine in 30 seconds. Look up your DVD player in Google with "region" and "crack".
If you cant do it, just buy a multi-region player in Oz. They're cheap as chips these days.

Re: Questions about DVDs
Yeah buy a multi-region DVD player in Aus unless you like your DVD player.
Heres a list of region codes anyway.
REGION 1 -- USA, Canada
REGION 2 -- Japan, Europe, South Africa, Middle East, Greenland
REGION 3 -- S.Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Parts of South East Asia
REGION 4 -- Australia, New Zealand, Latin America (including Mexico)
REGION 5 -- Eastern Europe, Russia, India, Africa
REGION 6 -- China
REGION 7 -- Reserved for Unspecified Special Use
REGION 8 -- Reserved for Cruise Ships, Airlines, etc...
REGION 0 or REGION ALL -- Discs are uncoded and can be played Worldwide, however, PAL discs must be played in a PAL-compatible unit and NTSC discs must be played in an NTSC-compatible unit.
Video picture in AUS is PAL B/G
In the UK its PAL I
So Video no problem however you may not get sound but this is down to your DVD player and only if you use the RF socket, if you use the scart socket or A/V sockets then you will have no problems.
But unlock your player anyway so your be able to play AUS discs on it when you get there, Note some machines only allow you to change region codes up to 3 times then they lock so research your unit first before playing.
