Exclamation Question about Melbourne/Sydney and IT/Cisco Networking Opportunities

Hi all!

I wonder if anyone out there can help, I and my wife are looking to move to Melbourne or Sydney or Adelaide and I don't know which will be best for my profession. I currently work in a support role for an International Bank using Cisco equipment, I have a lapsed CCNA, CCDA and CCNP and am currently performing a consultant engineer/manager role for a 24x7 NOC. I assume Melbourne and Syndey would have the most of these types of jobs and can see that ANZ and NAb are based in Melbourne for instance. However without know the local job market its difficult to know where to target...... Is Melbourne better for this type of work or Sydney? I would appreciate it if someone could give me their opinion of those local jobs markets (or elsewhere in Australia). Is there anyone who lives in a cimmuter suburb of Sydney that can reccomend it for families? As it seems pretty expensive there in general but I am not sure how far out it is feasible to go and still get to the main business areai.e. 1 hour commute each way??

Lastly - I do no have a degree and therefore will need to do an RPL, I have 8+ years experience but wondered if there are any Cisco data engineers (not security) who have successfully gotten in via that route and if so did you pick the ASCO code for systems manager?

Thanks very much in advance!!!!!!!

Both cities are great for Cisco jobs, and are desperate for experienced Cisco engineers.

So you need to find another criteria to decide on.

Our decision was based on being able to afford the property we want in Melbourne, plus the cosmopolitan-ness of the city and the stunning beaches.

OH is in IT Security (merchant banking) & we're heading for Melbourne too. The combination of wonderful beaches, more brick for your buck & good work opportunities is too good to resist

If these cities really are in need of experienced Cisco engineers then this is good news for me. I am trying to gauge how much demand there is via the job search engines, but these don't tell you everything - I repeatedly hear how Aussie recruitment firms post many bogus jobs to get cvs (moreso that UK agents).

I'm on the verge of making a 157 visa app, and have 7+ years Cisco experience, with several certifications. It would be nice to know what the job market is really like there before I arrive!

Can you tell me how you reached this conclusion? Do you/OH work in this field? Or is this just a general opinion.

Does anyone know of any recruitment firms that specialise in Cisco in Sydney/Melbourne?

Hopefully this post won't be seen as hijacking the thread, but as expanding on the OP!

Its reassuring then that someone in your position says there is demand for cisco engineers. Hopefully landing a job won't be as hard as I thought it might be.
