Queensland Building boom
QUEENSLANDERS are splashing out on big homes in the suburbs and lavish renovations as the building industry continues to boom.
Building Services Authority new figures show 42,313 renovation projects – worth $948 million – had been insured with the BSA to the end of May.
That was well up on 2002/03, when there were 38,000 projects valued at $887 million.
The spending on new houses is even greater – 32,634 residences valued at $5.7 billion, compared to 34,610 new houses worth $5.3 billion the previous year.
And houses are getting bigger, with latest figures showing the average size of a new home is now more than 253sq m – up from 234sq m in 2002.
