Default Quarantine Examination Fee

Hi,

Can anyone with a recent container arrival to Perth confirm the current quarantine examination fee? We have just been contacted by our agents quoting $640 for a full reefer arriving in Freo next week with two scooters and two bikes.

Cheers

Mark

Wink Re: Quarantine Examination Fee

If it's a reefer, you might get around the fee by offering the foreman a toke...

There is no way they can give you an exact AQIS amount until the container has been inspected. The total amount depends on how much stuff AQIS decide needs treating/destroying.

That's what I would have thought. Time to contact PSS for clarification...

It's a 20' reefer so he'd be welcome to pass it around

Hmm. PSS have just mailed that AQIS have a set fee for 20' + 40' containers which seems a lttle odd considering that one container might contain, say 200 small boxes while another might contain just a few big boxes. Another money-making exercise at the expense of new-arrivals, I wonder???

Its not done by the number of boxes you see, its done on the number of boxes/items inspected, and hours spent. So as MM says, if there's a good inventory they may not need to open as many boxes, hence the fee is likely to be lower.

Does that mean that, having seen the inventory PSS compiled (and forwarded to Kent over here) AQIS have decided that there is $640's worth of inspecting to do? (about 4 1/2 hours at MM's AQIS rate)?

I doubt that AQIS can decide that in advance! Also they may have to charge for cleaning/destroying items, so they would be unable to give a figure. If it doesn't arrive till next week, unless they are psychic, they can't put a figure on it. I'd ring back and ask how they arrived at the figure.

Ask for a total run down of the cost, their might be a cleaning charge in there, ie , remove goods to an approved cleaning station and return , this can get costly especially with cars etc........................ mm
