Quality of drinking water QLD
#1
Right, I think I am up to numpty question No 3456 -
Can anyone tell me what the quality of the drinking water is like in Brisbane and Gold Coast stretch of Queensland?
We are in a very very hard water area here and I can't live without my Brita Water Filter and I just got to thinking about the water there.
I know the infrastructure for water supply is disappearing so don't need the cut n' paste about not enough water etc, just interested in what the water tastes like - metallic, hard, does it have floride (sp?) added - that sort of thing.

Maybe I'm just not fussy enough!!
Here's a link to the Brisbane City Council's site for water quality - it might answer some of your questions.

Pen, its pretty hard, but you can still make a lather
. Not anywhere as bad as Logans water
, probably about midway on the scale.
Ive got a water filter as well, when we used to live in Logan I happily drank the water ( :scared: ) , but then moved into a house that had a water filter built in the kitchen. The very first thing I did when we moved to this house was buy a Brita! Otherwise the water tastes disgusting - roll on the day that my kitchen gets done & I can have a water filter fitted to my sink (as well as the one in my fridge)

I can assure you that the Gold Coast's water has hepas of chlorine in it, but its not 'hard'. You can buy water in the shops, it comes in different siyes (1 to 10L, even 15L) but it doesnt have minerals in it.... its not bad though.

To me it tastes horrible, tea and coffee taste very chlorinated, to the point where I'm looking for suitable pot plants to water
Most likely that's because I'm used to tank water now and any reticulated supply is going to taste of chlorine. A good filter jug makes a big difference as does keeping water in a normal jug in the fridge.
If we ever buy a place in a reticulated water supply area I'll still be having a tank installed for drinking water.
PS Tank water makes super home brew hic

It's horrible, depends where you live in Brisbane and surrounds. We live in the Pine. There is no fluoride in our water. Where does deadlciffe get it's water from? Because that tasted different again, I noticed the diff in water when I first moved into the Pine from deadcliffe. I could drink the water in Deadcliffe, although that wasn't too good either - but better than our water in the Pine. I would think it comes from the Pine dam too though, so it doesn't make any sense.
I just don't like the taste of it , it's got a bit of an odd taste in it, not detectable to hubby, but I notice it . I did initially think it was because of the new pipes ( it's a new home) , but over a year later the taste is still there, so it's not the pipes it must be Pine's water. Hubby can't taste it at all - mind you he has got no taste buds what so ever - he can eat my cooking too, and say that tastes nice lol
I drink bottled water - costing around 69cents for the supermarkets "homebrand" 1.5 litre bottles.
I wondered why my coffee doesn't taste the same here in Aus ( we use tap water to boil a kettle), I put it down to the milk here ( I don't drink milk unless in coffee - so haven't got a clue in the taste diff between Uk and Aus milk) - perhaps it's the water why the coffee doesn't taste the same - can't be the coffee, same brand I always buy - Nescafe. I'll have to try that tonight, use my bottled water for coffee and see if tastes any diff. If so - one filter jug coming up. what ever they are, I'm not very domesticated - but I can make toast

I use Neverfail water
They supplied me with FOC water coolers which do boiling a chilled water as long as I buy my water from them, it is $11.50 for 15 ltrs and they deliver and remove used bottles every 2 weeks. I dont even use a kettle anymore.

Deadcliffe, sorry where is this place, can't seem to find it on the map.....?
Mrs Scun
On the water point - we filter ours with a Brita filter too.

Enjoy your nice cup of coffee tonight

she will still find something to complain about. The water thing is obviously down to taste buds. Kevan thinks the straight from tap stuff is fine but I can only drink it if chilled Brita. Coffee is foul with straight tap water and the scum on the top is
OK looks like I am bringing my jug with me. I like Kala's idea - might have to look into that in QLD. If I am going to have to drink gallons, it's going to have to taste good.
OT Polly, what's with the signature? Are you thinking of moving back - From Mrs Nosey.
