Default Q's re:reckie trip to Melbourne Phillip Is

Hi wondering if anyone has any helpful tips for a reckie trip to Melbourne-Phillip Is. Firstly this is where we are thinking of emigrating we have a few contacts there, OH is a Carpenter, me a Secondary school teacher, 2 kids 3 and 10 months. We have spent quite a bit of time on the island about 3 -4 months in total but last trip was in 2000, so quite some time ago. The thing i'm worried about is that we were 2 youngish! carefree, responsibility free (i.e no kids!) adults when we were last there. We were going to just go without going back for a look first. So me with my sensible head on, has suggested a reckie trip to look through the eyes of us now being parents, to check out schools, job possibilties, accomodation etc, etc. This would be for a week without kids. I would be interested to hear if anyone is in the same situ, any tips for a flying visit, or would you not bother? Also can anyone recommend a good hirecar comp? and finally what airlines would you recommend. Sorry for such along post, although this has been a long process i'm now starting to worry about every little thing. Thank you for any help Sam
