Hi Guys
Can anybody please advise me of any good pubs in and around Perth and the northern suburbs.
My partner has just come back tonight after going out in Joondulup and a local pub near to Duncraig and he his completely disillusioned by it all. He said its like going into a pub from the Deep South lol.
I understand we haven't come to Perth for the pub culture (I certainly havent) but my partner still likes to do this which I think he will find hard.
He just couldnt believe the prices they charge for a pint of beer no chance of him getting drunk. Unless he downs a bottle of Vodka before he goes out ha ha.
I wish to God he would realise there is more to life than a pint of beer moan over.

I used to go to the Sea Sports Club at Ocean Reef marina, costs about $300 for annual membership but the prices are very reasonable. I don't go anymore because it's no longer walking distance now I've moved.

Welcome to Perth
This must be the most unexpected part of the transition to living in Perth.
We've got a couple of good pubs here in Kalamunda, but they're hardly buzzing.

Didn't get round to picking the car up from the car park till this afternoon and all was good. Do agree though that going out for a pint is not cheap but coming from Dublin I'm kinda used to paying a lot for a drink

Not Perth, but you can't beat a night out at the Little Creatures Brewery in Fremantle, worth the short trip down there. I live on the East coast and always look forward to my trips to Creatures.

Anyone coming from the UK who expects to find a pub in Australia which is in any way comparable to an English pub is in for a rude awakening - they just don't exist. There are several "British" pubs, but any resemblance to an English pub is extremely superficial.
Same can be said of most British pubs these days. When I started going to pubs (around 1964) they just sold beer - you might get a pickled egg or a packet of pork scratchings if you were lucky. Then the breathalyser came in, together with the separation of breweries and pubs (previously most pubs were owned by the breweries) and pubs had to start diversifying into food to stay in business. Nowadays just about every pub in England offers a reasonable menu.

If Perth is anything like Sydney, then once you leave the inner city, where there are loads of pubs and bars - and move out into the 'burbs, you usually get one hotel or tavern per suburb?
Whilst they are nothing like an English pub, they have changed hugely (at least in Sydney) with many being family and female-friendly & offering good food.
You just have to knuckle down and make the effort to 'fit in.' Once you have been to the pub a few times, tried a bit of conversation with the staff and locals, you should start to settle down.
