public transport nz
HEY everyone!
we are wanting to travel from Auckland to Tauranga on monday 3rd november by train
what i want to know is:
- are these trains frequent throughout the day?
- how much will it cost?
is this the best/ most economical way to get to Tauranga?
sorry for the mundane question!

I would say bus or car would be a better way to go.
If there is a train, it would be little more than once a day (if that) - so you'll need to be bang on with the time - you can't just turn up like in the Uk.
(I could be wrong - it will pay to check somewhere official, but that's my guess.) try http://www.tranzrail.co.nz/
And you though the UK train service is bad! At least the Uk has one...

nope, you're out of luck. Just had a look at that site, and there's basicaly three long distance train services for the whole of NZ.
None to Tauranga, and even the one to Rotorua says it's not currently operating.
When you see NZ's terrain and lack of population you'll understand why there's few long distance trains.
Catch a bus or hire a car to Tauranga.
http://www.intercitycoach.co.nz/
there may also be Tauranga -> auckland airport shuttles that would be faster than those on above website.
I'd hire a car...
(And I don't want to hear anymore complaints from anybody about the UK train service!)

This thread should have a smilie on it! The words NZ and "public transport" don't go well together...
There did used to be a train service - there is a tiny train station in Tauranga - but I believe it stopped last year.
But hey - you could fly!
Nicola.
