Default Public Holidays

I have just been looking at the public holidays for ACT. I see they get a holiday for the queens birthday which is odd given that the UK doesn't observe it.

Also, Labour day on 5th October. Shouldn't it be in early May?

I think all the States get the Queens Birthday, certainly the majority do.

It varies between states. Tomorrow is a public holiday in Qld and NT. Labour Day in Vic is in March.

Civil servants in the UK get it off as a "privilege day".

Between different time zones and public holidays I bet things can get a bit confusing. Especially if you live near state boundaries.

Sure is especially when the ACT does something whacky like last year and had a holiday on Melbourne Cup day (idiot politicians, say no more) but the surrounding area doesnt. Holidays arent the only things that are confusing - Canberra and Queanbeyan have a different school entry age - up to 3 months difference can be very confusing!

the worst is in QLD when you get "show day" for the ECKA. For Brisbane City Council Workplaces (not place of abode) it is the Wednesday, for other surrounding councils it can be Tuesday or Thursday. It all comes down to where your place of work is, which is f#&ked if you work in one council boundary and have your kids go to childcare in a different one, as mine do
