Private work
Hi all, does anyone know whether or not someone on a student visa can work for private customers? What i mean by this is ; if i was a hairdresser, could i be paid money from friends and neighbours to cut their hair (once i'd got the right to work that is) or would i have to work for an Australian company?

Or am I out of order here?

Re: Private work
As much as it would be tempting, we wouldn't risk breaching the student visa we would be coming on. My hubby works in the construction industry and when he gets his permission to work, he can only work 20 hrs, so i thought it would be easier for him to find work to fit around college hours etc, but i wander if this would be alright if we declared this. It just seems logical for him to do what he's good at and he could work hours to suit, i suppose it would be like having his own Jim franchise, like we were advised might suit us, surely this is the same, only difference being, he works for himself and wouldn't have paid out stupid amounts of money. Thanks for your reply, Cheers, Lisa.

Nice one Timber Floor Au, but we'd be found out and i wouldn't breach the visa terms. Anyway what's the area like where you live and is it anywhere near Nambour, Sunshine Coast?
