Demand for Australian beef from overseas is pushing up the price of beef. Yankee mad cows are no longer wanted and chicken is Asia is now sniffed at.

Hi WBB

Guess who hijacked that thread, the pain in the arse Merlot. I have sent a reply to your football thread (more hijacking here).

Yep, since I have been in Oz (1997) the price of beef has shot up and the quality down. In saying that, I am sure it is still cheaper than the UK.

Anyway, the meat I buy in Capalaba is generally pretty good quality about 80% of the time.

And even when it isnt the best, for example; Sometimes the rump steak at $5.99 is a bit tough, but I still reckon its good value, especially for the BBQ.

Quite similar to NZ prices. I'd say the NZ meat is often excellent and usually at least good. Lamb here is the best I've ever tasted so it's not true what PB said, that all the best meat gets exported.

Got rump steak at NZD8 a kilo last week. Can usually pick up a leg of lamb for NZD20 but that's a lot of meat.

Not sure about meat but the best fruit was certainly graded for export. This was for nectarines, peaches and apples in Batlow.

BTW it is nectarine and peach season in NSW.

But you can get better deals by buying in bulk. And you can afford to buy in bulk.

There some way you can buy a cow or a sheep in advance. Not sure how it works or how practical it is but the bloke at work reckons it would be dead cheap.

Everyone thought he was a Chilian version of Del Boy but has anyone hear heard of such a scheme?

Dead & Cheap, I would hope

I know you can order a whole cow or sheep, and get the butcher to cut it up for you, but you need a decent size freezer

We used to do that in UK.
