Prescription costs
Having registered with a doctors, i understand we pay the doctors fee then make claim against at medicare centre, yes?
Our other question is, can we then claim against for the prescribed drugs or is that what it is fees?
Thanks.

No, you have to pay for prescriptions. I have had 4 lots of antibiotics and 2 lots of eardrops over the past 6 weeks, total of about $140!

Re: Prescription costs
No but you most medicines are on the PBS so get capped. Also if you go over a certain amount the safety net kicks in and you pay $5 a script.

prescriptions can be cheaper private than through the PBS and generics are way cheaper .

I found the Jindalee pharmacy is pretty good but Chemist Warehouse in Joondalup is less expensive if we're going to be down that way. The one in Ocean Keys is more expensive than Jindalee or Chemist Warehouse but they're convenient.
Oh, and don't forget to keep all your receipts. At the end of the year you can claim what you've paid toward medical costs on your taxes.

Ocean Keys does direct Medicare billing so you shouldn't have to pay anything when you see them. If you go to a specialist you pay a gap, which you then get part back from Medicare. Just take the receipt to Joondalup Medicare office and you can either get cash or they will deposit directly into your bank account.

Re: Prescription costs
Can Medicare print out a statement for prescriptions you have had, do they keep a record of scripts cashed in so to speak?

Re: Prescription costs
If you use eTax (downloaded from ATO website) for your tax return, the program downloads the statement from Medicare if you want it to do that.
