Pregnant In Oz

Re: Pregnant In Oz
Congratulations.
I had my baby in Oz and was very happy with the care I received during my pregnancy and birth, though I have found the care after I have had the baby pretty appalling. When I was in the hospital I was told to take the bub to my local chemist to see the community nurse when I got home, which I did. She is a nice lady but offered me no help or support when I had problems with bubs. I was exhausted and had nowhere to turn. There is no system of health visitors here or community midwives to visit you at home.
Sorry to be so blunt, but I think it is best that you know so that you can be prepared. There are baby clinics, which can offer you help. It is best that you find your local one before you give birth. I only found out about our local one by chance as bizarrely I was supposed to refer myself to it. Which as I didn't know it existed was a bit hard.
Anyway good luck and sorry for the rant.

Thats sad to hear Katie. Here in WA there are child health nurses and child health clinics, they are much and such the same as i had when the boys were born in Scotland. There is also a family resourses centre called Ngala which seems to be fab, i haven't used it myself but many friends and family members have used many of their services from helpline phone calls to booking in for a few days to help sort out sleeping and feeding issues. For those in WA who may find it helpful here is the link http://www.ngala.com.au/

What meet is this? I missed this one. If it is in the day we cannot unfortunately make it as we are working as usual.

It was great to see you posting as we too have not been here too long and found that I am now due with our first in May, so many of the replies here have been very helpful and reassuring about what is to come.
It was also ideal that you are in Mornington as we are just down the road in Frankston South at the moment, so all of the experiences that relate to the local hospital were good to see.
Regarding the local experience, I wondered if you had any recommendations regarding anti natal classes, or even if you had any words of wisdom for a recommended obstetrician in the area.
Any advice you have would be more than welcome (or from anyone else who may have experienced in the Mornington/Frankston area).
p.s. We Love Mornington - too many good coffee shops and big breakies have been consumed there since we arrived!!!
Thanks.
