Default Power Tools in NZ.

Hello all , some months have passed since we last popped-in
on this site. We could not believe how long it eventually took to
get references, documents, information , proof and god knows
what else before we could send our case file off to be lodged
for Newzealand. 8 weeks in total, waiting for replies, chasing
people from long ago , meeting my old college tutor for evidence
of my attendance and "sylibi" ? Real do your brains in stuff!!
I almost called the whole thing off at one stage, as to make my
file up seemed never ending and quite stressfull at times.
Anyway we plodded on and finally we are getting somewhere as
today my NZQA assesment came back from Wellington and it
was AOK .Next are medicals, job offer, sale the house and
a fantastic exchange rate!! Not much to ask for really, just keep
on piling the stress factor (NOT!)
My question to anyone who may be able to advise is-------
Do site carpenters in Newzealand use 110v power tools or do
they use 240v, and to add to this, do they use more in the way
of battery powered tools?
I hope someone may be able to help, I hope you are all ready to
live your dream or are already living it.
Cheers the Thomas Family

110 is used, mostly mains powered tools are used and the NZers are really big on battery powered tools....24volt stuff is the in thing!
We got a builder supply effected on our building project a while back and thats all normal mains power,no fixed 110 supply
Power tools are about the same price here too, like for like,we just had to buy quite a few more last week

Hi again - welcome back!!

sorry can't help you at all on the issue of power tools (not my area of expertise I'm afraid) but glad to see things are heading in the right direction for you! It certainly does take longer than you think to get all those bits and pieces brought together and the whole process is certainly not for the faint hearted! Have you had any joy with the job hunting yet or is that still a bit in the future! Do keep in touch when you can and all the best!

Hi
My husband is a carpenter and last week we went out to buy his tools, he was quite impressed with the prices seemed about the same or cheaper, one tip if you have alot to buy, compile a list and drop it to numerous suppliers, we are in Nelson and took the list to, Mitre 10, Carters, Opel, and Place makers. Tell them you have moved over from the Uk and are looking for the best price. Tell them you have given the list to others too. withtin 24 hours three of the companies came back to us with comprehensive lists and the prices varied up to as much as $1000, we looked at the lowest priced one and one item was about $300 more than the other two, pointed out to them and they dropped the price to match the others! Its also worth mentioing who you are working for as this can swing things in your favour too, however nelson is a small'ish place don't know if the same applies in bigger cities? We put the lists in on Tuesday and all the goods were ready to collect on friday. Most of the suppliers have websites too so check them for an idea of prices.

Hope this helps
Tori
