What rate can you get when transfering a large amount in to $ from £
there is a lot of difference between tourist rates and sterling/oz dollar rates
which are published in the financial papers??

You're right, there is a difference between tourist rates and 'proper' transfer rates. Tourists are getting about $2.35 / £ at the mo, while big money movers are getting 2.45+.

This was my reply to a similar earlier posting:

Just make sure you get a couple of quotes rather than just accepting the first one that comes along. You're changing quite a lot of money so small changes in the rate will make a big difference.

Try HIFX,Ozforex and Moneycorp for starters:
