Default Posting some Presents

Got some stuff to post to my OH out there already (1-2kg max) Looking at some of the rates and DHL Air are talking about customs clearance charges etc. Are these applicable to all parcels inbound or are there better ways to send stuff?

Cheers

Mike

When we post presents to and from Canada we mark as 'gift - no value'. Never had a problem.

DHL are notorious for making up charges. Personal items & gifts are shipped free most of the time, (if you are under $$ limit, not shipping anything restricted or weird - something that would require additional paperwork), but they insist on tagging on agent fees, customs clearance etc. just to make a few extra bucks off of you, whether it is actually needed or not. If you have a choice, try something else first.

If you are buying gifts from a retailer that gives you no choice, then you are stuck, but that is more likely to happen in Germany than elsewhere, since DHL is owned by the Deutsche Post, so they sometimes see no reason to use other service.

If you use www.wedelivertheworld.co.uk they actually contract out to DHL but without the extra charges because you are paying them not DHL- used them several times, mark the stuff as a gift and you should be fine
