Post graduate financing options
Hi All,
I am here again to get some more help
I am considering to take up a post graduate program like MBA or similar one's(I am still in browsing mode). I am working and have got good salary.
I am trying to find out what are the financing options I can have as a PR, living in Sydney? can I get this information from the centrelink, if not then whom should I contact?
I tried checking the study assist as much as I understand I cant get the hecs help loan. So, is there any other option available to fund my studies? and can some one please help me understand what is the meaning of commonwealth supported places?
Thanks for your help!!

PhD fees are waived.

PhD fees are only waived if you get an APA or similar. You will be responsible for the fees associated with an MBA (domestic rate) but you may get a HELP loan. Alternatively, you might get your employers to help out or you may qualify for a scholarship.
Good luck.

Actually, business PhD fees are waived. At least, that's what I was told, but I got an APA so can't confirm. I would check with the uni and see what they say. Before I applied for the PhD, I applied for a DBA and was offered a place with no fees. It's very rare for DBAs to be free, not so for business PhD. Didn't progress with the DBA before anybody thinks I'm a perpetual student.

thank you all for your responses
can I get into Commonwealth place? will I get the similar discounts as citizens?
Yeah JOE, I know experience matters the most. However, people wouldn't let you get into the role without the education.

You'll have to get on the Uni you're interested in attending to find that out. I can't imagine you'd get similar benefits/discounts a citizen would. It would defeat the object of being a citizen.

Spoke to a uni admin. Fees are waived for research degrees, provided you have 2i or H2A. This applies to PhD and Master's by research for Aus/NZ and PR. In Victoria, fees are waived for the DBA at Victoria uni as 2/3 is research. First year is coursework. You also need significant business experience.

I'm doing an MBA in a recognised school at the moment, we are talking around 60K.
I got some credits from previous qualifications so I saved some money (and time). No HELP assistance as I'm not citizen although I have PR. Same fees for everyone (local & international students) in any good MBA in Australia.
You'll save a good percentage in your tax return (around 30%) if you are working while studying, and you also may get sponsored by your employer. I'm not sponsored but I've heard companies covering full tuition fees, one unit per term or just a percentage (depends of the company).
As mentioned above, don't even think doing a MBA if the school is not recognised, it would be better and cheaper to go for a different Masters degree then.
