Hubby has just come back from riding his bike, whilst out on his ride he felt a sharp pain on his foot just above his little toe, he stopped and took off his shoe when he took it off and shook it he thinks a spider fell out (he is not 100% sure and it was dark). He has definately been bitten but it looks like nothing, it is just slightly red and about the size of a 10 cent piece, should we do anything about it or wait and see??

The thing that concerns me is that he isnt 100% sure what bit him, is there the remotest chance a snake could have got him?
Im saying that if there is any chance whatsoever, then I would not clean the wound, apply a pressure bandage and get him to a doctor.
If he is sure its a spider but not sure which spider, then I dont know if the hospitals tend to do much for redbacks or white tails.
But to be cautious you could contact your local doctor for advice.

Hows the spider doing?? Did he escape back to the "I,m a celebrity get me out of here" camp and on another task!!! Only joking! I hope he,s O.k and must admit to not being partial to spiders myself. We,re hopefully emigrating to Brisbane late next year and seeing all those insects on I,m a celebrity programme is a bit of a worry. I,l just took me trousers into me socks!! L.O.L..cheers, Dave

As long as it was'nt a funnel web its very unlikely a spider bite will kill a healthy adult. The only spider bite death in the past 30 years in OZ was from a funnel web. More pople die from bee stings then spider bites.

Best to check shoes before you put them on!
Hope Hubby is okay!
Trouble is a spider bite can be nothing on one person but I've heard of people ending up in hospital on drips with a Whitetail bite.
If you get bitten by anything dangerous as the OP said apply pressure to the wound with a clean cloth/bandage etc to stop the poison spreading into the blood stream. Don't suck it out or even apply a tourniquet as seen in the movies! Try to identify what bit you and get help asap - it may be flat having been bashed by your shoe
I never used to be afraid of any creepies in the UK but now they get a wide berth, bashed or sprayed! Sorry creepies.....but you have dangerous bites!

My hubby was bitten on the toe a few weeks back and within a few hours it had developed into loads of blisters which were all pussy. Quick trip to the Dr on Sunday morning and a course of antibiotics sorted it out. Well,it sorted the toe out but didnt prevent the male moans and groans for another 2 weeks!lol
I hope he is ok.

Yeah, growing up in WA, we were always taught to step on the outside of our shoes first before putting them on, especially the toes of gumboots/wellington boots etc.... spiders like dark spots like that to hide in!

Don't worry everyone, I AM ALIVE!! and haven't yet turned into spider man!! Nothing to show for it apart from a minute puncture wound on my foot.

Check to see if there is 2 holes or one cause if it was a spider bite then there should be 2 holes very close together(pin pricks) if 1 then its something else or a spider with 1 fang.(very unlikely though)

Not forgetting bull ant bites - my daughter got one of those on the leg and screamed the house down for an hour - very painful apparently.
