Default Port Duty (Import) at Melbourne on Household Goods

Dear All,

I have shipped my household goods (more than 1 year used stuff) to Australia before embarking on visa validation trip. The goods are scheduled to reach Melbourne next week.

I have been told by my shipping company that there may be some 500AUD of port charges. Can someone who has collected/cleared their shipments from Melbourne confirm if there are any kind of charges/duty/fees on household goods imported as a PR?

Best Regards,
Sandeep

AQIS - thats the Quarantine service - will inspect your goods to make sure that there is nothing like plant matter or untreated wood, which could bring diseases into Australia. You will have to pay for this inspection, and for anything that they decide needs to be fumigated before being allowed in.

we arrived in march, container arrived june and they charged us this end!
be careful though even though we thoroughly cleaned kids push bikes, they still claimed they were dirty and charged us $180 to do half hours cleaning work!
