Default Poor credit..how will affect life in australia?

Just wondering how a poor credit history would affect a move to Australia? Is there any restrictions when applying for a PR visa?

In Scotland we have a thing called trust deeds that can wipe any debts within 3 years but doesn't mean the person has to go bankrupt its a step before that, would someone with one of these struggle to get a PR or citizenship?

Thanks for your help trying to plan ahead for OH applying for visas.

AFAIK, your credit rating in your country have no effect on Australian credit rating, you start anew. Approaching this from the opposite end, I have a very high credit rating in the US of A, and it means squat in Aussie. There you go, years of paying bills on time and it means donkey $%!t

That is correct. You can be a UK bankrupt, but you start here with a clean slate.

No Australian history = good credit risk.

An Australian credit history, taking account that they only include bad credit = possible bad risk.

However they WILL ask if you have ever been declared bankrupt - personally I would say no as you haven't been declared bankrupt in Australia and your UK credit history is of zero relevance here.

Cool. Does that mean you can take out a heap of CC's in oz, run up massive bills and do a runner back to your country of origin where you have a good credit rating? The bad credit rating you have in oz for not paying that 100 grand back means nothing in the US, UK etc.. correct?

Only if 1) you have no conscience
and
2) you want this thread to turn into the usual abuse-throwing which always happens after a statement like that........

The only time your credit rating would affect a visa application is if you are applying for a business skills visa where you need to show x number of years of business solvency. For a skilled migration visa you do not need to worry about your credit history. The question is not on any application for skilled migration and nobody from DIAC is going to ask you about it.

It was a valid Q. Do you still have good credit rating (assuming you had a good one before) in US or UK if you mess up your oz one?

Yes, you do. The UK credit rating system is not linked to the Australian one, in just the same way the as the Australian one is not linked to the UK one.

You seem pleased with that. Are you really planning on doing that then ?

Or has the meaning of 'cool' changed yet again

No credit history check on PR. You have to have police checks in uk and oz.
