Had a quote for a pool and would like a few opinions as to whether it sounds ok.

8m x 4m Concrete pool
2 seats
3 underwater lights
polished pebble
Solar heated
Chemigen chlorinator (automatically controls chlorine & ph)
fencing
coping
council fee etc.

Looking round previous posts this seems there or their abouts, but during the sales pitch mentioned a few things I found interesting.

Fibreglass isn't that much cheaper than concrete, they only use fibreglass from NSW because they have to comply with a standard unlike here in QLD, and because of the climate can affect the quality of the fibreglass.

Also said saltwater was more hassle than we were lead to believe, eg cleaning plates & having to take pool samples to the pool shop etc.

Do like the sound of the chemigem though (virtually maintenance free & low running costs)

Any advice/comments appreciated, is the price realistic?

Sounds a tad expensive, but only just. Spose depends on your block !

Id have thought max 25k, but then im not aware of that chlorinator/filter setup.

We have always had salt water chlorinators, and they are so easy to use. But yep you do gotta get water tested periodically !

Plus with adding solar heat etc, its probs dead on the mark.

Have you tried Pioneer Pools, we have done loads of work for them, not pool related. Seem like a nice outfit, and i know contracts manager, lives in Beenleigh

That sounds pretty fair considering you have included heating. Our 10 x 4 was $25,000 in April 06 but we don't have heating and ours didn't include fencing. All up, with landscaping, fencing, retaining wall etc our final cost was about $44. There's no hassle with salt water. Ours needed a fair amount of just this week but only because we've had non stop torrential rain for weeks and the pool was nothing more than rain water. Our chlorinator is a self cleaning one so no work there, but you go with what you're happy with. No pool is completely 'hassle' free though.

Sound about right to me. Ours was finished last month 10 x 4 with solar heating for pool and gas heating for spa - $49,500 - electrical on top came to $3,500 but this did include other lighting for the garden. Didn't include any fencing which can cost quite a bit.

You might want to see what they are charging you for fencing and then shop around for other quotes before you go with what they say.

Just out of curiosity what value (if any) would you expect having a pool installed add to your house, it's just easier to justify the expense if you know at least some of it will be an investment.

For example, would having a $30K pool installed add $20K to the value of your property?

Just as a comparison. Ours is the same size (8x4), Saltwater chlorinator, 1 underwater light, water feature, glass fencing (2 sides - separate contractor), coping, council fees, and came to $24,000.

Did that include heating, was it fibreglass or concrete, and do you have any seats (kind of like benches in the pool at about 500mm below the surface)

and what type of chlorinator do you have, The chemigen sytem I've been quoted for is quite expensive, but worth it (I think), I'm pretty lazy when it comes to that stuff.

So initially, perhaps it wont add immediate $ for $ value to house, but as time creeps on, then you should see your return mature to and perhaps beyond your initial outlay

Hi, no we haven't got heating, but we do have a sort of a bench seat up one end. As for the filter/chlorinator pump thingy, I'll have to ask my OH when I get home. Thats too technical for me. I'll let you know on that one.
