Not loaded but not swings and roundabouts either. Somewhere between the 2.
I'm earning about 70% less than I was in germany. Chris is earning peanuts in comparison to what he was cos he's now an apprentice instead of an engineer.
We are paying more for our house here than we were in germany but thats apples and oranges cos germany was an apartment and here we have a house, garden etc.
But we still have an equivalent lifestyle (more so cos of the weather) We still eat out whenever we want to (normally once twice per week or get takaway) I'm still pickling my liver with lots of red wine but now I've added chocolate port as well We still go to the bank and just take out what we need. Currently have no idea what my bank balance is, just know there is more than enough for what we need. Plus we are saving a bit each week cos we definately dont spend what we earn.
The one benefit is that we have an extra sense of security cos we know if we do run out of money we just need to transfer some down from Germany, but to be honest apart from the $25k we transferred down last year to help with our setting up costs we havent had to move any more down.
Having said that we dont have kids so I think that makes quite a bit of a difference.
