Default police checks-a few questions

We are applying for employer sponsored, category 121 PR visas. A couple of question about the police check procedure.

1. My husband have lived in both England and Scotland in the past 10 years . Do we need to apply for police checks in both places?

2. We are living in the states at the moment but are going back to the UK next week to sort stuff out. How does the police check process work? Do you do into any police station and fill out a form or do you need to apply in writing? I'm assuming there is some sort of charge.

3. How long does it take to get the checks back ( I remember there was a thread on this, so apologies for a duplicate question...)

Also - just out of interest, what is the appliication charge if applying for PR from the UK. We have to pay $925 here which seemed high.

Thanks!!

Length of time may vary but the fastest way to get an answer to your questions is to use the search engine thingamahjig, put in "police checks" and it should come up with the answers to just about every problem.
